Members’ Yachts
Wherever a member keeps a boat, the burgee goes too. From a Welsh racing marina to a Devon shingle bank, a reservoir in Rutland and a lake on the St Lawrence, these are the yachts that fly the colours of the Budleigh Salterton Yacht Club.
Erasmus
A 36-foot Farr racer campaigned under IRC with a crew of eight. Her own pages carry the season, the results, a log of every race and the replays.

Mustique
An International Dragon of considerable beauty and occasionally questionable geographical judgement: summers beneath the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau on Lake Thun, winters in Cannes.

Beomus
An 18-foot hull under a towering rig, with wings out either side for her crew. The class began on Sydney Harbour in the 1890s and has been sailed on the edge ever since.

Smoke Show
A new-rules International 10 m² Sailing Canoe from the Clark family of Rhode Island: pointed ends, a sliding seat and a narrow hull of varnished wood and carbon fibre.
Her profile
Otterly Optimistic
The only yacht in the fleet launched from the club’s own beach, which is made entirely of very large pebbles. Launching takes most of the morning; the sail is worth it.

Iced Capp
Our most distant member: a 1975 Tanzer 22, built just up the road in Quebec, sailing a short, fierce summer on Lac Saint-Louis and spending the winter under a tarpaulin and a great deal of snow.
Her profile
Persistence
Forty-two metres of 1930s America’s Cup thoroughbred, delivered in sections by road to a reservoir forty miles from the sea. She needs most of the lake to tack and all of the county to crew her.

Any member’s boat may join this page, from an ocean racer to a dinghy that has seen better decades. Send the Secretary her name, her class and a photograph, and tell us something about her that nobody else would.
